You … could say that from this single note - at least as classic and recognizable as the intro to Smoke On The Water or Stairway To Heaven - not only Echoes blossomed, but that it was also the start of the group sound that would make Pink Floyd a beloved one. A piano note by Richard Wright manipulated into a sonar pulse (or ping) eventually revived the atmosphere. In that mood the band started to experiment with sound. People kept getting to a dead end until, according to engineer John Leckie, boredom struck for good. With hardly a song or idea to hand, the four members of Pink Floyd hung out at Abbey Road Studios in early 1971 recording Meddle. ![]()
